Austin Wedding Vendor Interview
Premier Entertainment Group
An Austin Wedding DJ
I firmly believe that having a professional wedding DJ can make or break your reception. I know some pretty amazing ones, including Brand with Premier Entertainment Group, an incredible Austin Wedding DJ. My running vendor interview series highlights some of the most amazing Austin wedding vendors you can find. Of course, I do have my running list of Austin wedding vendors that you can also check out! So without further ado, here is the interview of Premier Entertainment Group!!
Tell me a little bit about your company, Premier Entertainment Group—Why did you begin it? When did you begin it?
We officially formed Premier Entertainment in October of 2014. After spending years in the club and bar scene and doing the occasional wedding in Austin we were approached by a local Austin wedding venue to be exclusive and handle all of their weddings. We said yes without realizing they owned 2 venues and were doing approximately 150 weddings a year. Needless to say, my business partner Mike and myself had a serious decision to make. This allowed us to quit our day jobs and focus 100% on weddings.
What is your favorite thing about your profession as an Austin Wedding DJ?
Meeting amazing couples who teach me about everything from music, to their culture/backgrounds. Seeing my music experience combined with the couple’s music tastes come to life on the dance floor never gets old.
What is your least favorite?
My least favorite part of deejaying is loading in and tearing down. I’m too particular to have anyone do this for me so it’s a necessary evil but easily my least favorite part of the job.
If you could share one piece of advice with a potential client, what would it be?
Don’t procrastinate. The Austin metro is a hotbed for weddings not just for Texas but for the entire U.S. Couples should avoid procrastinating on hiring vendors or the planning process. Overwhelm yourselves early on so you can relax towards the end of this portion of your journey.
What are your top five favorite songs?
There are songs that I love that aren’t conducive for dancing so I’ll give my personal favorite songs for private listening and my favorites for packing a dance floor.
My personal favorites in no particular order- Prince “Purple Rain”, John Lennon “Imagine”, Marvin Gaye “What’s Going On”, Sam Cooke “A Change Is Gonna Come”, Soundgarden “Black Hole Sun”
Favorites to fill a dance floor that I never grow tired of (in no particular order)- Usher “Yeah”, Rihanna “We Found Love”, Daft Punk “One More Time” Icona Pop “I Love It”, Backstreet Boys “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)”
Why should a potential client hire a professional Austin DJ?
Having someone dedicated to read and control the room via music and announcements is invaluable. There are tons of skilled Austin DJs at your local bar or club but without the experience and professionalism of entertaining at a wedding, it could be a disaster. Everything from the DJ not showing up to not having the equipment to properly do the job are all things I’ve heard. I’ve heard unfortunate stories about the DJ being drunk, saying something inappropriate on the mic, or playing explicit music.
Folks who load up their Spotify with their favorite playlists forget that Spotify can’t read the vibe of the room and most people simply don’t want to hear songs in their entirety when dancing.
Name three random facts about yourself.
- I’m obsessed with red licorice, particularly Red Vines; I despise Twizzlers.
- My last name came to me in a very vivid dream when I was 21. The dream was so vivid and so real I immediately changed my last name. That dream didn’t make complete sense until I started becoming a successful wedding DJ.
- I’ve been in the same room with Prince 3 times in my life and all 3 times he refused to talk to me!
Thanks again to Brandon with Premier Entertainment Group, a top Austin Wedding DJ for your event!!!
