Looking for a gender neutral wedding playlist? You found it!
I was having lunch with my new clients Meghann and Rose and we were chatting about their big day. In passing, Meghann mentioned how she’s struggled to find gender neutral songs for anything that involves their wedding. Almost everything mentions a “him” or “her” in the lyrics. She didn’t mean to, but her quandary stumped me. How had I never thought about this? I can’t imagine how LGBT couples have struggled with this very same issue. What song could be a processional? What song could be a first dance song? I scoured the internet for resources and after spending way too long slogging my way through good and terrible songs, I decided to come up with a Spotify playlist for those looking for awesome gender-neutral wedding songs!
I also steadfastly avoided the majority of over-popular songs. I’m sorry, but I’m really really sick of “Just The Way You Are” by Bruno Mars. Apologies if you’ve chosen this song for something during your wedding. I just do dozens of events every year and this song is not unique. But ignore my hypocritical ass, because I love the shit out of “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri. Makes me choke up every time.
Any, enjoy, follow my playlist and have fun! If you use one of the suggestions, please let me know! (most of these are slow processional and first dance songs.)
