Check out this The Vineyard at Florence wedding!
One of the few things I repeatedly say to clients is, “a good wedding is made with a good attitude.” Or something to that effect. Usually, I mean when it rains, don’t freak out. Or if it runs late, don’t freak out. Now, I can add, “if there is an active shooter at the wedding venue, don’t freak out!”
Yes, you read that right! Now, it ended up not being an actual big deal, thank goodness, but it was still a wild ride. Sara and Joe kept their shit together and in the end, they had a pretty good day at The Vineyard at Florence!
So in Texas, we like our guns. When we heard gunshots during the ceremony at The Vineyard at Florence, most people assumed it was some hunter hunting. Bye Mr. Deer, right? Imagine our shock when, during the cocktail hour, everyone was stuffed into the reception space, the doors closed right behind us. Yikes. We weren’t allowed back outside for a couple of hours, which threw the whole night off. I ended up having to do family shots in pitch black dark, as the temperature dropped, and boy, let me tell you…the family wasn’t stoked. I think we all made the best of it and the professionals involved probably deserve a medal. I’m a firm believer that you don’t leave a wedding or miss a wedding unless you’re actually dying. Rumors circulated that it was a guy with a rifle and there was so weird moment where I was like, “I could totally have a scope on my head right now and die…” but man, if I die at a wedding, I’d die doing what I love most. I’m cool with that, I guess. (Dear Universe, please don’t let me die like this….LOL)
I know this is a bit of a macabre post, but I wanted to share with you that weddings as a whole are beasts in and of themselves. You can’t control it, you can’t prepare for every loop…but let me tell you, Sara and Joe barely blinked an eye. They took it all on the chin like champions and kept going with excitement and joy. Even when the day didn’t turn out at ALL like they imagined (except with the puppies!), they still kept moving forward with a fabulous attitude. All in all, this The Vineyard at Florence wedding was a success!
If you recognize them, it’s because we did these super fun engagement portraits earlier this year. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to know these peeps. They’re just so damn nice! They even regularly foster through Austin Pets Alive!, which is why they had this adorable puppy party on their big day. I’ve never had the blessing of playing with puppies on a wedding day…IT WAS AWESOME!
I want to give a special thank you to my second shooter Aubre for weathering the unpredictable situation with grace and for the venue coordinator for The Vineyard at Florence, Jennifer, for staying and keeping care of the guests even when other staff bolted. This industry isn’t for everyone, so thanks for everything, you guys!
