Day #4675 of quarantine…wait…no. Scratch that. IT’S ONLY BEEN TWO WEEKS?! Jesus lordt, how time crawls…This past week, we moved into a three-bedroom and we have so much space for activities!! I even have enough drawers in my kitchen for an actual junk drawer. A JUNK DRAWER. #firstworldneeds Frankly, moving during the quarantine was smart. What else am I going to do!? I miss my gym, I miss my friends, I miss knowing people will keep booking their weddings. There is so much uncertainty in the world right now, but at least I’m happy with my living room, right?
I’ve also been a big reader again, but getting back into it has been hard. Since I’m pursuing a master’s in creative writing, I’ve been doing a lot of “reading to write” recently. I analyze sentence structures, adverb usage, etc. In my quest to learn more, I have discovered some new absolute favorite writers that I definitely want to share with you!
I can’t remember if I’ve blogged about it yet, but even if I have…totally worth a re-mention. Scythe is an incredible dystopian series. Neil Shusterman has incredibly engaging prose, with fully developed characters, an incredibly built world and a storyline that kept me engaged constantly. I savored all three books slowly, loving them dearly. Highly recommend!
Six of Crows was AMAZING. It’s in the same universe as my other favorite series, The Grisha Triology. I actually just found out IT’S GOING TO BE ON NETFLIX. So now is the time to hop on! Anyway, it’s magical, with fully realized characters, excellent world-building, and storylines that are amazing. Six of Crows actually has one of the most fully realized characters I’ve ever read and it’s pretty incredible. HIGHLY recommend.
The Silent Patient was a new favorite as well. I love it when an author is able to use misdirection to surprise the reader. It has four stars for a reason! I’m not going to share much, because I don’t believe in spoilers. Just go read it.
One of my long-time favorite authors is Colleen Hoover. She normally writes lovely book-boyfriends with interesting heroines, but she veered off her beaten path to write a thriller. Verity is so FUN and the ending…WHATTA TWIST! I can’t recommend this book enough! Perfect summer read!
So there we go! Now on to why we’re actually here! Back in 2018, I photographed Janie and Rob’s wedding. Soon after, she gave birth to RJ, wayyyy too early. This little fighter was a few months early, born basically the size of your palm. After weeks in the NICU, RJ was able to come home and turned into a cute chubby little bebe you’ll see here! I loved photographing this first birthday party, the theme was so fun too! The vendors, as usual, were also amazing! HOW FUN!
Stay safe and healthy, my friends. Also, stay home.
