Can I just say, I get so HAPPY when people come and rehire me? A little-known fact: I photograph anything that helps me feed my four cats and two dogs. When my clients expand their family, I want to be RIGHT THERE, photographing the journey. So when Desiree said she wanted me to photograph her and Joe for the third time, why wouldn’t I??? I did their gorgeous San Antonio wedding back in 2016, which was a huge game-changer for me.
But this family means a lot to me. Joe is a cop and Desiree, I worked with her when I was in the Navy. Last year and after their wedding, while Trump was being elected and then got elected…I struggled with my friendship with them. I think that’s sometimes the downside of being friends with clients: divisive leaders divide. I found myself arguing with Joe a lot about Trump and politics in general.
Then I realized I was going to alienate people I really appreciated and respected. Now, I don’t think that politics are something you can set aside, but I also think that sometimes…you just have to decide which is worth more to you. I decided these two were worth more than arguing about politics, something that we actually have minimal impact on as individuals.
And I’m glad I grew up because I get to see Desiree in this new phase of life and photograph them on a gorgeous morning at Sekrit Theatre. Afterward, Joe and I talked about my new concealed carry license and guns. It felt really good, honestly. A vital learning lesson in how to run my business even better.
I appreciate this family more than they probably realize. I adore them.
