I guess I should add Destination Family Photographer to my resume this year!
One of my favorite parts of my job is watching my client’s grow in life. Jobs, new homes, babies. I don’t photograph a lot of family sessions, but I met the Shewells back in 2015, photographing Alexandria’s first birthday on Oahu. I’ve also photographed Alexandra’s third birthday on Maui and then last year, celebrated their new baby girl’s baptism in Denver. It’s been an absolute delight watching this family grow, so when Elizabeth contacted me in June to fly to Disney for Alexandra’s fifth birthday, I was SO down. This time, it was going to be at Disney. I was unsure what it would be like spending a day with a family that had an eighteen month old and a five year old…but you know what? I finally learned the magic of Disney and children. Alexandra spent most of the day squealing with joy, grabbing our hands and dragging us to the next event. She wore sparkle dresses that poured glitter on everything and everyone she was around. She consumed chocolate for breakfast and lunch, with some snacks in between. She basically showed me what an amazing childhood should look like.
She may or may not be my spirit animal. LOL
I loved seeing this family and going through these images brought me so much joy. I feel blessed to have incredible clients like this, that let me glimpse into small sections of their life, to see their reality and trust me to capture it. I hope to see them again next year, to help make their memories shine! I’m learning I really like being a destination family photographer and hope to visit more clients in more places next year!
