My Favorite Austin Florists

Check out these amazing Austin Florists!

Working as a Wedding Photographer in Austin, Texas has given me plenty of opportunities to meet wonderful vendors. In the industry, vendors we make friendships with are called “friendors,” which signifies people who are not only professional but cool enough to chill with. I have some amazing Austin Florists in my life, that I want to share with you here on my blog. I’ve worked with them at least a few times and met them in person…so you can hire them with confidence. I also asked them each some weird and interesting questions, so you can get a feel for their amazing personalities! Let them know you heard about them from me and hire them with confidence! They are also vetted to be LGBTQIA+ supportive! Also, make sure to check out this recent wedding I photographed, that I want the whole world to see!

When I recently hosted The Pride Shindig, Remi + Gold was gracious enough to attend and provide some of the most breathtaking images I’ve ever seen. It literally took my breath away. Apparently this is their skill, stealing oxygen from all those that behold their stunning creations.

1. What is your least favorite flower and why?
Gypsophilia, otherwise known as Baby’s Breath, because it smells like a wet dirty dog and looks cheap. However, the cost per stem is equal to or higher than flowers most people would consider more upscale like Roses and Ranunculus. It’s actually more than Roses and exactly the same cost as Ranunculus.
2. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Probably Australia. I wouldn’t need to speak a foreign language, they have much lower crime rates, and I would be the one with the cool accent.
3. What are the different styles of bouquets?
Traditionally there were five standard styles of bridal bouquets- round, cascade, pageant, crescent, and posy which is a mini round. I still have my workbooks from when I became a Master Florist in 1996 with those 5 bouquet styles. The boho style that’s most popular today is closest to the crescent, but with a lot of latitude for designers to create their own interpretation. The classic round is the only other traditional style brides ask me for today. When I had my shop back in the 90’s and early 2000’s all I ever made were cascades with a round every now and then. Since I opened Flor Amor in 2015 I’ve only made one cascade. Most brides today want a less structured look, and it seems the giant bouquet trend of the last couple of years is on the way out.

If a cupcake was a person incarnate, Corynn would be one. Her smile is infectious and the creative designs she comes up with really shine! She is one of my favorite bubbly Austin florists as well!

1.What is your favorite and least favorite flower?

My favorite flower is probably a ranunculus or coral charm peony.  The ranunculus is sweet in size with this stunning beauty of all its petal layers.  The whimsical feel in its stem movement and those color options can make you stare!  The coral charm peony is like watching a floral magic show.  It starts off a show stopper with it’s bright color and large bloom.  Then fades to soft pink, peach and then ends ivory just before it drops its petals.  Truly magical.

2. If you were only able to grab three items for a zombie apocalypse, what would they be?

I got the kid to participate in this one.  He’s almost 9 and loves this stuff.  He says:  (1) A weapon.  Something long range.  2) Family.  And the dog, cat, turtles and fish too of course.  3) Water and food with lots of gummy bears.  I’ve gotta admit, he hit the most important items I suppose and I love his description to go along with it.  I might just have requested a handle of Titos rather than the gummies.

3. What do you love most about your job?

The smiles.  Seeing the client beam with joy when she sees the bridal bouquet for the first time brings tears.  It never gets old.  We get to share in making a day a little brighter and a heart filled with more love.  Can it get any better?

Coley was one of the first people I met here in Austin. She is a retired tattoo artist, with lots of art all over her body. She brings forth an ingenuity into being Austin florists that make her clients super stoked on the wedding day!

1. What is your favorite kind of flower?

Twinkle Orchids have super dainty blooms but are filled with the most intoxicating scent.

2. If you could have dinner with one person, dead or alive, who would it be?

1920’s Actress Louise Brooks

3. What do you love most about weddings?

Creating the overall feel and vibe
