Back in 2015, I had one of the most epic first birthday shoots of my career and in turn, had the pleasure of meeting the Shewells. We went all over the island of Oahu, trying fresh poi, served delicious lunch, a helicopter ride, topped with snorkeling and the most epic sunset cruise I’ll probably ever experience. I called that sunset the My Little Pony sunset, because it was just perfect and vibrant.
Imagine my extreme pleasure when Elizabeth contacted me again, this time for Alexandra’s third birthday on Maui. She mentioned things like, “cake” and “mermaids” and “petting zoo” and I almost died. It was even better in person, despite the sun beating down on us. Alexandra was an adorable three-year-old, sassy and clever, building the most epic cupcake I’ve ever seen.
She cooed over the rabbit (that last photo at the bottom of this blog is adorable, that HUGE smile so worth all of it!), she side-eyed the ponies, she sassed me when I asked her to pose. She rolled down the grass as the sun was setting, giggling loudly from her intense sugar high. I just felt so blessed, being there for this little family (that is growing by one this December!) on Maui, on a gorgeous August day. I said it earlier and I’ll say it again: I am so blessed.
p.s. little known fact about this particular evening: Brian and I ended up missing our flight to Oahu by like nine minutes, thanks to an accident on a small road. ::sigh:: but still worth it, IMO. But seriously, I’ve never missed a flight in my entire life (outside of random out of my control situations, like delays from connections) and I was so stressed. Brian knocked it out of the ballpark and was my wingman in the best of ways, as usual.
